Toddler Activity – Straws and Container (12 Months)

IMG_0227

I think we started this activity when my son was around 9 months old. We used pick-up sticks then as they are sturdier and harder so it would be easier for him to put them through the holes. This is a more challenging activity because the straws can easily bend so it’s harder for him to push them all the way through. He would need to figure out where to hold the straw so that it won’t bend.

I just used an old formula container and poked holes on the lid.

We have a bunch of these multicolored paper straws and I just showed him what to do.

He continued the activity all by himself but he got bored once he figured out that it was the same concept as the pick-up sticks. Nevertheless, it kept him occupied for around 5 minutes and I was satisfied with that.

As always, please supervise your child when doing this activity as straws can poke the eyes, etc. Skip this activity if your child likes to put things in his mouth.
