Dial Coconut Water

I'm a sucker for coconut scented products so when I saw this at the supermarket, I immediately grabbed it. We were on my son's birthday staycation and we ran out of shower gels. This was a lucky find.

Don't let the water bit fool you. The gel is actually very thick. I have a hard time pumping it out of my dispenser. The scent is mild, really refreshing. It also has a minty feel. It's not very hydrating for my super dry skin but it will suffice. It's also affordable. I'm not sure if I will buy this again as I have a ton of body washes I need to go through.

Body Treats Charcoal Nose Pore Strips

I am attracted to products that are made with charcoal. I don't know why. Perhaps it's the striking black color that gets to me. Anyhoo, I found this box of charcoal nose pore strips at Watsons and got them on a whim. My husband and I tried them and they were excellent.

You start with a wet nose and apply the strip. Wait for around 15 minutes or until the strip fully dries then peel off. I won't lie. It hurts to remove the strip but it says on the directions to just wet your nose a little to remove the strip easier. I don't mind the pain especially when I see the results. You will really see all the dirt, blackheads and whiteheads on the strip. When I touched my nose, it was really smooth. It felt clean too. I really like that the product did not make my nose itch unlike other strips that I've tried before. My husband also liked this. Yes, we will continue using this product!

Moms, Recycle Your Kids' Broken Crayons

We have a ton of crayons. I have a secret stash that I go to whenever I need a prize for my son for when we visit the doctor or barber. We have many broken crayons and instead of throwing all that money away, I decided to do this:

I got one of my silicon muffin pans which I got for the bargain price of Php66 and put the broken crayons in each pan. Make sure that you remove the paper wrapping first. I didn't want to use the oven so I put this in a deep pot on the stove and covered it. I put the heat on low and let the crayons melt for about 5 minutes or so. I let it completely cool and they came out looking like this:

My son had a blast with these crayons. He couldn't believe that these round discs were actually crayons.

Unfortunately, because of this, he figured he'd break all his crayons so that I can make more. I made a second batch which I will share with you soon.

These are perfect gifts for little hands too! Just put them in a clear bag, tie with a ribbon and give!

Great Finds at True Value

I never thought that a hardware store can be one of my favorite stores in the mall. True Value is not your average hardware store. They offer many products that are of great quality and yes, value. I go inside their store whenever I see them. Here are two of my great finds.

I am an advocate of snacking especially now that my son is at that stage where his appetite has greatly decreased. Our doctor says there is nothing to worry about as this is a phase that all kids go through.. My son still eats but not as much as he used to. I stock up on healthy snacks so that he can have something to eat whenever he feels like eating. These sealing rods are a big help.

They are air tight so I don't have to worry about ants invading our food. Food stays crisp. They come in 3 different lengths. I will probably buy more of these over the weekend.

These are Monster Pop molds. I asked my son if he wanted the bugs or these monster molds and he chose these. Probably because they look like Mike.

I just poured some cran-rasp juice in them and popped them in the freezer. They came out like this:

Next time I will add sugar syrup as the sweetness has greatly diminished. One set comes with 4 molds. It is a great set to have around especially during summer.

This is the bottom. It's really hard to get those last bits out. You have to wait for them to melt.

Cream-O Brownie Crunch

I didn't have a lot of expectations from this product but I was really surprised that it turned out pretty good.

These are the actual thins or brownie crunch. They are crunchy and chocolatey. They have that distinct chocolate taste that I have come to associate with Cream-O. The peanuts lend an interesting taste to the whole brownie crunch.

One pack costs around Php34.

Pre-School Plates

Here are more ideas for your pre-school menu. My son has greatly decreased his appetite. He is already at that stage where his body does not need much food. According to our pedia, this period is from 18 months and will last until 36 months.

My feeding strategy is still the same. I offer him different kinds of food and just let him eat whatever he wants. I have accepted the fact that I will only rarely get clean plates at meal times now. He used to wipe out his entire plate in no time. Gone are those days. I also added more snack times to our days so that he can eat whenever he feels hungry. Remember, kids will never allow themselves to get hungry so if your child does not seem to eat, let him be. He knows his body best.

corn and carrots // mashed potatoes // chicken nuggets

peach cubes // a brownie // mac n cheese

cherries // fried rice // good old H20

cheese squares // brownie // SpaghettiOs

cran-rasp juice // crunchy chickpeas // tuna sandwich

Here are the crunchy chickpeas:

You can get the recipe in my food blog but it still needs a lot of tweaking.

Ganso Shabuway

For my son's birthday lunch, we opted to eat at Ganso Shabuway. Shabu-shabu is a new experience for my son. His birthday was a day of new experiences.

We got the beef set for two.

These are the soups. The one on the left is spicy but my son can tolerate it. I think the one on the right is wakame based. There's a soup base that tastes like water, according to the server. I think it's the seaweed one. I originally wanted that but she warned me. Thanks!

These are the sauces. The condiments are shown in the photo above. I like the peanut sauce better.

I ordered extra veggies. I didn't know that one set already came with a lot of veggies.

I also ordered extra Narutomaki and kani.

This is the vegetable and noodle plate that came with the set.

I totally forgot to photograph the beef so here's a half-empty (or full) plate.

We all loved this lunch. Even my son enjoyed the different vegetables and seafood. Oh, I forgot to mention that this set also came with 2 servings of rice. I paid a little over 1,000 pesos for this lunch which is okay based on the quantity and quality of the food served. Service was also great. They even gave my son a birthday buco sherbet and greeted him a happy birthday. We will definitely come back for more.

Deep Fried King Fish with Mango Thai Salad from Banana Leaf

This is another dish I ordered when we were on our staycation. This is the deep fried king fish with mango Thai salad. I actually wanted a sambal fish but it's spicy and my son won't be able to eat it so I opted for this. It is a big fish that was enough for the three of us.

It was actually good with the sweet and sour dressing and the green mangoes. We ate this with some of our leftover chicken from Max's. This fish is really good. I think even my mom, who is not a big fan of Asian food, will like this.

My only comment for this order is that the rice was too little. On my first visit, they gave me so much rice. On this visit, I asked for 2 orders of rice but they came in that one container that I featured in my previous Banana Leaf post. So I asked them if the rice they gave me was already for 2 and they said yes. Oh, well.

Check out my other Banana Leaf post here.

Gifts

We got a few gifts this week. First, my SIL and BIL are back home from Singapore for their son's 2nd birthday. We picked them up at the airport and spent the rest of the day in the mall. They gave us a few homecoming gifts before we parted.

I asked my SIL to buy us some IKEA straws as they are my son's favorite. As you may very well know, plastic is no longer allowed in Makati so most of the straws in the supermarkets are paper which we hate as it leaves a weird taste.

This is a Spidey coin purse from Zaini. It has mini egg chocolates inside.

These are shirts for my son. My SIL knows my son is a Spidey freak nowadays thus the Peter/Spiderman shirt. These are still too big so I'm keeping them in my stash.

This is a bottle of body wash from Innisfree. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we don't have Innisfree here so I haven't tried their products yet. My SIL says they are pretty good.

This is a face mask from the same brand.

I also asked her to buy me some Mod Podge as mine is running low. I tried to pay her for the Mod Podge and the straws but she said they are gifts. So sweet of her. Thanks sis!

These Mouskatools are their birthday gift for my son. This is a set from Play-Doh.

Snacks for the little boy. My son started eating the cashew nuts yesterday. He loves nuts like I do.

Then today, I was surprised with this package. It's from my best friend Ahne.

This is a Hot Wheels busy book for my son. It's her birthday gift for the little one. I'll be keeping this because we already have the same set and some of the cars are already missing. If I open this then the cars will probably meet the same fate.

Finally, a pair of Ipanemas for me! I was really happy to receive this because it's not my birthday or anything. My best friend is just simply awesome. Thank you! Mwah!

Lartizan

Most of our breakfast fare came from Lartizan during our staycation for our son's birthday. I thoroughly enjoyed most of the breads and pastries we ordered. Here are some of them.

This is a huge dark chocolate chip cookie which I gave to my son. He really enjoyed this. He left a small piece for his dad.

These are my favorite. These are ham and cheese croissant and pain au chocolat. They are so good I could eat them everyday but they are actually very expensive so no to everyday.

This is a chocolate muffin which I really didn't like. I didn't like the taste nor the texture. The bottom sticks to the muffin cup too. I had to scrape the bits off with a spoon.

I will try their other breads soon. What are your Lartizan favorites?

Trying Banana Leaf Again

I've been craving Malaysian food in the weeks leading up to my son's birthday. Good thing there's a Banana Leaf restaurant near our hotel.

The first time we ate there, we didn't like it. Their food lacked flavor and I thought the prices did not justify the taste nor the serving. This visit was different, however. I ordered takeaway and here's what we got.

Of course, I needed my Nasi Lemak. This was good but I didn't like the chicken part. They only have dark meat which makes me break out into hives. But it satisfied my craving!

The coconut milk rice was in abundance. So much for a single order.

This is for my son which was recommended by one of the staff. These are prawn and cheese balls. My son liked them. I tasted one and it was good.

This is Tom Yum which my husband did not like. It's sweet and only has 2 shrimps. It was all soup. Totally not worth the price.

I don't have anything good to say about these spring rolls. I really did not like them. No one liked them actually. Sorry about the photos. Our hotel room was so dark.

I have another post about Banana Leaf coming up so stay tuned for that!

Pre-Schooler Plates

My son is a big boy now so I'm changing the toddler plates to pre-schooler plates.

a brownie // chicken nuggets ( he already ate two before I took this photo) // corn and carrots // fries

oranges // hotdogs // bread with butter and grape jelly (my son decided to be creative with his plate before I took the photo)

This is a leftovers plate that consists of rice, corned beef, shrimp dumplings, oranges and chow mien.

This is a very simple plate. Some cheese, fruits (which my son started eating before I took the photo) and the cheese bread from Bread Talk.

Another simple plate - eggs, mangoes and a chicken pie from Contis
