A Crafter's/Homeschooling Mom's Daiso Haul

I go to Daiso every week to buy kitchen towels and to see what's new. One weekend, I found a few items that I can use with my crafts and our homeschool.

This is just a simple pillow net for drying pillows. Of course, this will not be used for my crafts. I saw this and I thought it would be handy as I wash our pillows weekly on a rotation.

How cute are these popcorn and fries notepads?? I use them for our sight words. You can see how I use them here

These are paper chains but I use them for our scrapbooks. You can also use them for planner designing. You can also use them to count down special occasions such as birthdays, Easter, Christmas, etc. Just remove one strip from the chain each day.

Finally, these craft containers which I use to corral our art stuff - rhinestones, paper strips, cut up straws, etc.

My Love-Hate Relationship with Kinetic Sand

Ahh, Kinetic Sand..where to start...

I bought Kinetic Sand with the intention of adding it to our list of daily activities. It's a great way to strengthen grip strength, improve fine motor skills and to develop those tiny fingers in preparation for writing. I was debating whether to get this or the other brand but the SA said that Kinetic Sand is much faster to clean up. I was sold! Knowing my little boy, he would make a mess of it.

But, things were different when we started playing. The sand kept sticking to my son's arms and legs. You see, you shouldn't play with this if you are sweating which is something that's impossible for kids. Kids are active and active kids sweat.

It was also so hard to clean off the floor even with a broom and a mini broom. It would sneak inside crevices. Sure, I can put a mat underneath but the sand still goes everywhere.

This is the reason why I kept the sand for a long time but one day, I decided to suck it up and just let my little one go crazy. That day, he wanted to make some pyramids. we started with a few up top and ended up with this:

It was a great hand/finger exercise and Math lesson in one. I also added some history lesson about the pyramids. Coincidentally, the Phineas and Ferb episode that day was also about pyramids.

This is one of my son's favorite shows so he had a blast.

Kinetic Sand - Love it? Hate it? Spill!

We were gifted a knock off brand from Divisoria and it's sooooo much better to clean up than Kinetic Sand. Check it out here

Keep Little Ones Busy with Busy Books

We love busy books for several reasons. First, It's a book and an activity set in one. Second, it fosters creativity. Third, it's an affordable way to get those super expensive figurines in one go.

These are some of our busy books. Our very first one is Jake and the Neverland Pirates which I got when my son was just a few months old. He started playing with it when he turned 6 months, with supervision, of course.

We also have Cars and Planes which are my son's favorite.

Inside are a few pages of text introducing the different characters.

At the end, there is a play mat and the figurines. You get 12 in a set.

Just look how big that play mat is.

The details on the figurines aren't bad either.

My son plays with a set for about 15 minutes or so and that just gives me some time to blog, relax or get the next lessons for the day ready.

As always, if your kids are still putting stuff in their mouth, be sure to supervise during play time. I also count the figurines during pack up to ensure that all pieces are there.

2016 National Bookstore Ang Pao Bag

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! I look forward to this day every year because of the National Bookstore Ang Pao bags. This year, however, I was pretty disappointed.

They usually put a ton of school and office supplies and a really good book but this year, it only has 2 magazines, a few pens and a document carrier. I already have a ton of pens and that Doughnut tape dispenser from Scotch and I wasn't really interested in the magazines so I decided to skip it this year. I don't feel like these items are worth 1,085 pesos, but they were slashed down to 300 pesos per bag.

Fortunately, I was able to see the sample pack displayed. Otherwise, I would be wasting money.

Robinsons Selections Grand Canal Mall Haul

Last Monday, I brought you around Robinsons Selections. Today, I'd like to share with you what I got.

A tub of watermelon slices because we always buy fruits whenever we go to the supermarket.

Fruity rings to snack on.

Popcorn because we love popcorn.

Skittles, Darkside. I'm going to give this to my husband on Valentine's Day. He loves Skittles.

My son loves Star Wars and Darth Vader so I couldn't pass up this box of chocolate nibs.

Of course, I had to buy a box.. or two of these Trader Joe's Granola Bars!

Mike and Ike candies, because my son wants to try them. I'm going to give these to him on Valentine's Day as well. He only eats candy when we're outside, in the mall or when we travel so these are really a treat. I only pull these out when he's in a mega tantrum fit and I need to focus on something for several minutes.

I have to admit that the first time I tried Brown Rice (eons ago), I hated it. It was hard and didn't quite complement the viand I was eating. My sister cooked it. Last week, I bought some and cooked it myself and I really liked it! I read somewhere that white rice sucks up arsenic and a lot of chemicals from the soil and brown rice doesn't so I got me a kilo. My son also likes this so I bought more today. This is cheaper than the one I got last week at Rustan's Fresh. We will still eat white rice because brown rice is expensive and my husband is not used to brown rice but we will eventually make the switch. But, white rice is still best with other viands such as Sinigang!

The house brand stuff is super affordable.

This is the Silky Girl makeup remover. Got it for Php189. Fingers crossed, it will be great.

That's it for my haul. By the way, do you know what flowers these are?

I found them near our parking space and I thought they are just absolutely beautiful! Just look at those gorgeous colors!

By the way, I forgot to mention that Venice Piazza and Grand Canal Mall still don't have a decent parking area so we had to park on the street. They have guards in the area as well as attendants but the car is exposed to the heat and it felt like an oven when we opened it. Also, it's double parking so only one car can go out and come in at a time. You also have to make a 3-point turn in order to get out of the area. When we were going out, there were 2 cars getting ready to leave and another one getting ready to park. Good thing the guard directed the traffic but we still had to wait several minutes before we were able to get out.

Robinsons Selections

If you read my last post, you'd know that we visited McKinley Grand Canal Mall yesterday. When there's a supermarket in a new mall, I always check it out and I'm so happy that I went to this one.

The layout reminds me of the Robinsons Place supermarket but this one is cleaner, neater and has less people.

My original plan was to just look around but I suddenly found myself grabbing stuff off the shelves and soon I needed a basket and that basket needed to be replaced by a cart!

They have a huge selection of ice creams, gelati, organic ice cream, Korean ice cream, etc. I was shocked and overwhelmed and excited all at the same time!

Look, there's even an Olaf and Ana ice cream!

I am really intrigued by this Carmen's Best ice cream. Anyone tried it? I'd appreciate a comment!

New Zealand Creamery ice cream.

I didn't buy any because we already bought some ice cream last Saturday and these were really expensive.

They have cold cuts and sausages from all over the world.

I was curious about these pasta cups. Just add water? Hmm, I'd still go for the home cooked version.

Trail mix to take in your carry on for trips. I didn't get some even though my son and I love trail mix because all of them had dried ginger and we don't really like ginger.

I was surprised to see Silky Girl!

This is a Malaysian brand that I only see there and in Singapore. Now, it has reached our shores!

Just look at those price points, so affordable!

I think they have the full line here.

I haven't tried this brand yet but I did get the oil-based makeup remover.

They also have one of my favorite facial scrubs from Olay! Stock up on those Evian mists for summer!

They also have a huge selection of local and imported candies! I wanted to go crazy!

They had a bunch of these Bebeto candies in different variants.

And look, Trader Joe's Granola Bars!

Just look at their baking supplies... They even had powdered buttermilk.

They also have a great selection of fruits, freshly cut (ready-to-eat) fruits and juices.

Getting ready for V-Day.

Stay tuned to see what I bought from Robinsons Selections.
