Behind Your Touch - Police Brutality? Violence Against Women?

I decided to watch Behind Your Touch, a K-Drama playing on Netflix now. I've seen the billboard and some advertising about it. I think it's also in the Trending Now category of Netflix that's why I was intrigued. My family and I usually bond over dinner and Netflix. Knowing from most K-Dramas we watched over the years, I was quite confident that this was a "wholesome" series. The premise was funny until that cop on the poster flipped and took down the lady vet, also shown on the poster. I was appalled and shocked when I saw that scene when the lady vet touched the cop's butt to save him from falling down the stairs while he was lugging his new bed mattress up to his new apartment and instead of thanking her for saving him, he took her arm, and flipped her on her back to the ground.

Why would a cop do that to a small lady veterinarian? I'd have to say that they met under not-so-great circumstances as he thought that she was a perv. He caught her trying to touch some pickpocket's butt on the bus. Instead of cuffing the pickpocket, the cop cuffed her and took her to the police station in a very harsh manner, like he was carrying scum off the street. This was a pretty decently clothed lady. She looks like a professional. Plus he already knows that she is the town vet from a previous encounter. Why would he drag her into the station in that manner? Don't criminals get escorted into a police station in a humane manner (most of the time)? Isn't this police brutality?

If he was a cop, then he shouldn't treat women that way. Plus, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I see no point in taking a woman down in that manner. As he is a cop, he can just invite her again to the police station to explain herself. Plus, is he so dim-witted that he couldn't realize that the lady supported her so that he wouldn't fall and perhaps hurt his back or hit his head? What's up with that?

In another episode, they were raiding a fish farm that they thought was the front for a big drug syndicate. It just so happens that the lady vet was being forced to work there, vaccinating the flatfish on the farm. She couldn't get away because the owner already paid in advance and gave the money to her aunt. The lady vet was actually kidnapped. She was tricked into thinking that they were going out to eat raw fish soup but a van stopped in front of her clinic and some guys in black dragged her into the van. It was seen that a man gave a thick envelope to her aunt which was filled with money. The aunt proceeded to take the money out and kiss them. In what universe is this funny? Selling your niece (who was the family's breadwinner, in the aunt's words) to do forced labor? This is not funny at all. This is a crime.

Back to the raid. So, this cop goes into the farm and sees the lady vet with bags under her eyes, looking all tired and worn out while holding the vaccinating needle. He immediately assumes that she's a junkie, flips her, and takes her down, flat on the ground. At this point, I've had enough and stopped the series from playing. I don't want my son to see that it's okay to treat women like that, or people in general for that manner. Those scenes are just 100% wrong. Now don't preach to me about gender equality, etc. A woman is a woman, is a woman. How would you feel if your mother got treated that way? Plus, what that cop did was absolutely wrong! He just kept jumping to conclusions. He didn't study the facts. He didn't listen to explanation. He didn't question. I think this is one of the reasons why a lot of people don't trust the police. If they are the ones who hurt you, whom can you trust?

I usually don't write reviews or rants about the things I watch but I was really shocked as most K-Dramas portray characters who are very respectful to one another. I've had Korean martial arts masters, I've taught Korean kids and teenagers and I've only had wonderful experiences with them. I'm so disgusted with this series. If you're a mom, don't let your kids watch this. It says 16+ on the rating but teenagers, especially shouldn't watch this so that they will not grow up thinking that it's okay to treat women and people this way.

Two thumbs down for this series.
