✨ How to Use the “Ready, Set, Read!” Cards

These spiral-bound flashcards were lovingly designed to help beginning readers master phonics patterns through visual cues, dot tracking, and repetition. Use them in the following ways:

🟡 1. Sound It Out with Dot Tracking

Each word has dots under the letters or blends. Children can tap the dots as they say each sound. This builds phonemic awareness and reinforces left-to-right tracking — a key pre-reading skill.

🔴 2. Build Vocabulary with Pictures

Every card has a real photo or clear image to support vocabulary development. You can introduce the word, then ask:

  • “What is this?”

  • “Where have you seen this?”

  • “Can you use it in a sentence?”

This encourages oral language alongside decoding skills.

🟢 3. Practice Blends and Patterns

Group the cards by type:

  • CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant)

  • CVCC / CCVC

  • Blends

  • Simple Sentences

This allows you to progress gradually based on your child’s reading level.

🔵 4. Play Games

Make learning playful:

  • Flashcard Races: Flip through as fast as your child can read.

  • Read & Find: Read the card, then find the object in the house or a book.

  • Build the Word: Use magnetic letters to build what’s on the card after reading.

🟣 5. Use Daily in Short Bursts

Don’t overwhelm! 5–10 cards a day is enough. Keep it light and fun. Revisit old cards before introducing new ones.
