Singapore Series 2018 - Flying Singapore Airlines and Changi Airport

We went to Singapore last July for my son's late birthday celebration. He asked to go abroad for his birthday. I'll be doing a series of posts about our trip.

The flight was really fast this time around, probably because of tail winds. The first few minutes of the flight were very bumpy - like me, holding onto the arm rests bumpy. The plane went up and down because the weather in Manila was not really good when we left. There was a typhoon going out and an LPA developing into a storm. When we exited PAR, it was sunny, clear skies.

Here's the food served. I wasn't able to eat any as the attendant did not know what's in it. This is chicken. My son liked this. Oh, and if you're wondering if you can take the food with you if you don't eat it or if you have leftovers, you can't. The attendants don't allow it because they said the food will spoil.

My son experienced just a little bit of air sickness. He didn't vomit but felt sick. Luckily, we were almost in Singapore when it happened.

Here are some photos in the plane:

For my son.

Tips when arriving at Changi

Walk fast. You want to beat the crowds. Immigration can take a long time.

Use the travelators as much as you can especially if you have kids with you.

Resist the urge to window shop. Lots of tempting shops all around. Save that for the return flight home if you have the time. If you have time to spare, you can probably spend some time looking around. Remember, a lot of the goods here are expensive so shop wisely.

Remember to stay behind the yellow/red lines when queuing.

Some immigration officers can be hot headed so reign in your kids. Otherwise, there's a wide open space before the lines and let them run around.

Exchange your money at the airport. They have one of the best rates. The other place to exchange your Philippine pesos is at Lucky Plaza in Orchard but I suggest exchanging a huge sum in the airport so that you already have money. Lots of places also accept debit and credit cards if that's your thing.

My BFF did not want to exchange a lot of her money in the airport believing that the rates outside are better. It was slightly better in Lucky but next time, I'm going to exchange all my money in the airport. Or exchange them at home before leaving.

If you arrive at 11 am on a Sunday, there are no long taxi lines.

We opted for a Grab car which we paid around SGD17 | Php665 (if I'm not mistaken) to take us to our hotel on Mackenzie Road, Little India. Remember to wear your seatbelts as you will be the one to be fined S$100 | Php3,910 if the police catches the car.

Our hotel check-in time was 3 pm so we left our luggage at the concierge and went to nearby Bugis.

Stay tuned for the other posts in this series.
