Afternoon Merienda

Merienda is very popular in the Philippines. It’s basically just an afternoon snack. I used to skip merienda before I became a mom. When I got pregnant, I needed to eat, of course. I thought it would end after I gave birth but until now, I still get hunger pangs in the afternoon. Probably because I do so much more now that I burn my food faster.

When we go to the mall, we would usually eat merienda because the little one needs his snack every now and then. On our first trip to Century City Mall, we ate at Rustan’s Gourmet to Go. I ordered the Mexican Macaroni.

IMG_8395

Mom ordered a sandwich. The macaroni was too bland for my taste and the taco seasoning was too overwhelming. That’s all I could taste. Nevertheless, I finished this bowl because I hate wasting food.

It also had too much bell peppers.

The S$2 OJ

I enjoy grocery shopping whenever we travel. It’s great to see the choices and stuff that other groceries offer. When we were in Singapore, I found this less than 2 SGD bottle of orange juice.

IMG_8373
I immediately grabbed a bottle for myself and another for my sister as pasalubong (homecoming gift). I know she will definitely like this and I was right! The bottle is big so it lasted us a few days.

The juice was delicious! It didn’t make my tummy hurt so that means it’s real juice! Orange juice is great for breakfast and I paired this juice with:

Jagabee

Whenever my sister goes to Thailand, she would buy me a bag or two of Calbee shrimp snack. When we went to Singapore, I looked for this snack in the supermarket but instead found these:

IMG_8338

IMG_8339

There are 4 variants and I got them all. One is original, the other one is seaweed and this is purple potatoes. I forgot what the other flavor was.

These are better than the shrimp snack in my opinion. I really love these and I’ve been eating them slowly. As a matter of fact, I still have one pack in my stash and I got these in February! I will be sure to stock up on these when I go abroad again. These are quite expensive though so I guess I will probably just get 3 packs again. I think…

Missing Carl’s Jr.

IMG_8310

We got a Carl’s Jr. overload in Singapore. Super expensive! We will probably won’t go back there anymore as my husband didn’t like it very much. Also, they don’t have chicken stars there. That’s what I miss most about Carl’s Jr. I hope they come back to Manila though.

Laduree

Laduree Paris is one of the places on my bucket list. I was very happy when I read that they opened a branch in Singapore.

IMG_8308

We got the box of eight with assorted flavors. Of course, my favorite was the chocolate. They were all delicious but the pepper flavored macaron was a bit odd to me. Laduree macarons will always be in my shopping list every time we go to Singapore.

Food Tripping in Singapore

Our flight was delayed so we were famished when we arrived in Singapore back in Feb. Fortunately, there was a Popeye’s near our hotel. This was on my to-visit list as I miss eating at Popeye’s.

I ordered the shrimps and biscuit. Hubby got the burger.

IMG_8300

IMG_8301

A few days after, we went to IKEA and of course, I had to have the Swedish meatballs.

IMG_8303

Hubby got the fried chicken wings. I liked these but they had a very gamey taste. I will try this again when I go back.

IMG_8304

IMG_8305

Absolutely loved the bottled water. Brought an empty bottle home and used it to store my craft supplies. My son enjoyed both dishes. I didn’t know that the bottled baby food was free. It’s okay as my son prefers grown-up food.

McCormick Herb Parmesan

IMG_8285

I bought a tube of McCormick bread spread earlier this year. The flavor was herb parmesan. I had high expectations for this product because it’s from McCormick.

I was very disappointed with the taste. It had a very acidic kick to it. I tried to eat it a few more times but I couldn’t get myself to like it. I won’t be trying the other flavors anymore as they don’t appeal to me.

Travel Must-Have

IMG_8280

Before we went on my birthday trip to Singapore, I read a few travel blogs to get  some ideas on packing. One of the blogs I visited mentioned that a luggage strap is a must-have if you have a hard case luggage because they just pop open no matter what the brand is. I immediately looked for a strap and found one at Samsonite.

I thought one pack had 2 straps. The SA told me that there were already 2 belts. We have 2 bags so this was perfect.

When I opened it on the day of our departure, I discovered that there were indeed 2 straps but they were connected! 2 straps for one luggage. Pffftt… Oh, well.  Their SA did not know that.

I used this for my husband’s luggage while I used my luggage bag to support my bag. I showed this strap to my mom and we will definitely buy more for our next travels.

Vidal Sassoon Shampoo and Conditioner

IMG_8274

I’ve been using the Vidal Sassoon hair care line for months now. I am very happy with the results. They leave my hair soft and easy to manage. I have less tangles. I also don’t get an itchy scalp with these products. They also smell nice. They will definitely be regulars in my bathroom.

I use them alternately with the Dove line. I’m using Bed Head products now but that’s for another post.

Twin Towers Chocolates

IMG_8267

Mom got these chocolates for me from Malaysia during the holidays. (Yes, my backlogs are from that way back).

She’s also a sucker for packaging. She especially likes tin cans.

IMG_8265

My son wanted to eat the chocolates but of course he is not allowed to. These chocolates were delicious. Unfortunately, I got lactose intolerance with just one piece. My husband was very happy.

IMG_8266

My husband ate the chocolates while my son had fun with the tray.

IMG_8268

He used it as a garage for his toy cars.

Simple Skin Care for My Hubby Part 1

IMG_0874

Men today are very conscious about their appearance. They have also started using skincare products. Unfortunately, my husband is not one of those men. He didn’t even know what a facial wash is when I met him. I was the one who taught him basic skin care.

As with many men in his generation, he just wants a simple skin care routine. I’m glad there is Clinique to take care of his skin. The most he can do on his own is wash his face and apply toner….sometimes. Let’s discuss the facial wash first.

My husband has oily skin. He has some occasional breakouts especially if the pollution is terrible outside. He has been using this facial wash that has oil controlling properties for some time now. He says that his skin has improved a lot. It helped minimize the oil on his face. He also said that it prevents acne. He didn’t experience any itching or redness because Clinique products are hypoallergenic and 100% tested. And the most important thing for him is that this facial wash gives a nice lather. He does not like using shaving creams or foams and relies on his facial wash. He said that he can easily shave with this product. He is very happy with this and I think he will ask me to buy another tube when this runs out.

*This is a sponsored post written by me. All thoughts and opinions are strictly from my husband and I. Thank you Ms. Anya and Clinique for sharing this wonderful product with us!

Fun and Functional Find at Daiso

I’ve had several hauls from Daiso now ever since it opened. Today, I’ll be sharing one fun and functional find.

How many of you still keep journals/planners? My husband gifts me with the Starbucks planner yearly so yep, I’m old school like that. My problem with this year’s planner is that it doesn’t have any space for a pen. I like jotting down things at the spur of the moment and I always lose my pens so that can be a problem. I like them to be together with the planner. Luckily, I found a solution:

IMG_9206

Introducing, the binder pouch! I know it’s embarrassing to say but this is the first time I’ve seen one. Cousin C was actually the one who saw it and showed it to me. I immediately thought about how great it would work with my planner!

IMG_9205

It can house a few pens depending on their thickness. These two pens are my current choices along with one Sharpie that also fits nicely in there.

IMG_9207

I really love this find! If you’re a planner junkie like me, go ahead and buy this accessory!

My Murano Bracelets

IMG_8148

If you’ve followed me on my old beauty blog, you’d know that I like crafting. I especially like making bead jewelry. This hobby has turned into a business which started when I was still a teenager. I would sell tons of my creations in bazaars all over the metro. Now that I am a mom, I cannot do that anymore but I can still sell online. I also like making my own jewelry.

IMG_8149

These bracelets were created from my well-loved Murano beads from more than 10 years ago. I couldn’t part with them so I kept some for myself. I sold a few pieces over the years as bracelets, earrings and necklaces but I told myself that I would make something in the future just for me.

I love these bracelets. They’re the perfect fit to my tiny wrists and they go well with my whole wardrobe.

A Filling Breakfast Idea

IMG_8146

I like chronicling what we eat because on days when I am stumped on what to cook, I browse my blogs to give me inspiration. Even simple meals such as this have a place in my blog.

For breakfast one Saturday morning, I cooked some fried rice with leftover ham. I chopped the ham and poured some oyster sauce over the rice. I also cooked some hotdogs and boiled some eggs. Serve this with some cold orange juice and your family will be happy for the rest of the day!

I Need My Veggies

IMG_8144

I have a ton of backlog food posts in my archives so please bear with me if you are waiting for my fashion and beauty posts. I promise to inject them every now and then (that means more than one post a day) so stay tuned!

When I cook pasta, it usually means that I’m too tired to cook or there is nothing left to cook in the fridge and pantry. This was not such a day.

I cooked the pasta using a basic recipe and used some leftover hotdogs. I thought I’d add some veggies because I was getting sick of meat already so I steamed some veggies and tossed them in some butter. I also seasoned them with salt and pepper. Finally, my husband had to have his buttered garlic toast so I prepared that as well. Quick, easy and delicious!

Have Beef, Will Stir Fry

IMG_8131

I hate wasting food! Followers of my old food blog know this very well. That is why I stretch all leftover ingredients and even dishes until we finish all of them. Here is an example of one such dish.

I had some beef strips lying in the freezer. It’s very hard for me to cook beef because  I am scared that they will get tough so I perused our vegetable bin and found a few leftover ingredients – half a tray of snap peas, one carrot and a few French beans. So, I immediately thought, stir fry!

This was very easy to make. Just saute some chopped garlic and onions, add the beef strips, add the veggies and cook them on high heat. My sauce is a combination of water, light soy sauce and oyster sauce. I also sprinkled some black pepper. I am proud to say that this dish did not last more than one day . The leftover from lunch was brought to the office by my husband for his lunch.

My Favorite Hair Brush

IMG_8122

I always thought that Denman brushes and combs were too expensive. Now I understand why. Now, I can’t live without them! I super love this brush! It doesn’t hurt my scalp but it’s also not too soft that it does nothing for my hair.

This makes my hair shiny and soft. I only use it on the top portion of my hair. I use a wide-toothed comb for my curls. I also like the handle at the back. I will show it to you when I make another post about this. I’ve been using this for several months now and I am very happy with it. Fixing my hair has never been easier. No tangles, no mess, no loose hairs. I will definitely buy more Denman combs and brushes.

Father’s Day Swag from Daiso

Father’s Day is just around the corner so I decided to feature some gift ideas I found at Daiso.

IMG_9493
Lots of stuff in my soft basket

IMG_9494

First, I got this pair of headphones. I really like the colors. I also tested these last night and they were great for 88 pesos. If you have a music junkie for a dad, he’ll sure love this gift.

IMG_9495

My husband loves soda so I decided to get this soda can rack to keep them organized in the fridge. This is great for game nights.

IMG_9496

These are dehumidifier sachets for shoes. I already put them inside my husband’s shoes. If your dad is very active, he would appreciate these.

IMG_9497

A set of precision screwdrivers for opening toys and tinkering with stuff.

IMG_9498

LED domes that light up! My son is crazy over these.

IMG_9499

Dehumidifiers for the car. Daiso has a promo. Buy 2, get 1 free. They come in citrus, lavender and unscented.

Each item is 88 pesos. You can buy one or a combination of any items to give to the special fathers in your life. Or, you can do it like me and buy everything and put them in the soft basket. Wrap the basket with clear cellophane, place a tag and you have a great Father’s Day gift!

Happy Father’s day to all dads out there!
